Day 2 - The price of a cup of tea

Porridge for breakfast - 10p.

Think we're going through the milk with the porridge a bit fast so will probably stick to just water with the porridge tomorrow. The milk is the one thing we've not really been able to go cheap on as Mary uses lactose free milk which is £1.35 a litre. Think we'll save it for the tea.

We shared a tea bag today and to be honest I couldn't tell the difference from yesterday so that should save us buying more tea. Interesting the wide ranging price of a cup of tea. Prices vary from our wee Tesco Everyday tea bag on the left at 0.5p to Tetley on the right at 2.9p and a Twinings could set you back 5.5p. Doesn't seem a lot for 1 bag but if everything is 10 times more expensive you start to understand the problem and what would be out of your budget.

Cup of Tea - just under 2p

Lunch was one of the portions of Lentil Soup I made yesterday:

The breakdown to make the full pot (6 portions for 2 people):
Carrots - 30p
Stock Cubes - 10p
Lentils - 45p
Onions - 16p
Potato - 53p
Herbs - 5p
Pepper - 5p

Grand Total of £1.64 for 12 individual portions.

Lentil Soup with 1/2 slice of bread - 15p

The afternoon for me was 1.5 litres of tap water. Mary was working from home and instead of having a cup of tea she had a cup of hot water to heat up and keep her hands warm.

Must admit we were both feeling pretty hungry in the afternoon. My stomach was complaining from about 4pm onwards.

Dinner was fish n chips with veg. To spice things up a bit I sprinkled some of the chilli powder over the fish. I suspect this chilli powder will be appearing in most dishes!!!

Fish n Chips Dinner with a diluting juice drink - 45p

After dinner and a quick walk with Bailey I made the 2nd soup we're going to be having this month. Pea, Lentil and bacon with 4 rashers of bacon. The other 8 rashers from the packet are being used in another 2 recipes. I think this soup turned out better than the lentil as I didn't use any salt as the chicken stock cubes we got are very salty.

No booze again tonight so we had another wee tea with a digestive after dinner.

Tea and Digestive biscuit - 2p (approx)

.... and then we both had a mug of hot water which is strangely comforting!!

Day 2 done!!

We spent around 74p each in total today.

Mary and I also want to thank everyone that has donated on the Just Giving Page.

Total raised so far £396!!!! Amazing.
